Count the words from the world shortest stories.

November 28th, 2006 by Hans

Ernest Hemingway needed just 6 words to make a story :

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Recently Wired magazine invited modern writers, authors and novelists to take up this challenge : a story resumed in 6 words.

a 6 words story pic

The list is full of thrilling and inviting stories just waiting to be read and enjoyed. C’mon they’re just 6 words, even the most lazy reader can spell them in less than 15 minutes. I enjoyed those mostly:

  1. We kissed. She melted. Mop please!
  2. James Patrick Kelly

  3. We went solar; sun went nova.
  4. Ken MacLeod

  5. Husband, transgenic mistress; wife: “You cow!”
  6. Paul Di Filippo

  7. TIME MACHINE REACHES FUTURE!!! … nobody there …
  8. Harry Harrison

  9. Batman Sues Batsignal: Demands Trademark Royalties.
  10. Cory Doctorow

  11. Dinosaurs return. Want their oil back.
  12. David Brin

  13. Microsoft gave us Word. Fiat lux?
  14. David Brin

  15. Mozilla devastates Redmond, Google’s nuke implicated.
  16. Charles Stross

  17. Starlet sex scandal. Giant squid involved.
  18. Margaret Atwood

  19. Time traveler’s thought: “What’s the password?”
  20. Steven Meretzky

Wouldn’t you come and try one also? OK, I’ll go first. In 6 words :

  1. I challenge you, 6 words story

Come in and have fun, take a comment and think of anything that comes to your mind and take this challenge : write its story in 6 words.

Ok, here we go, it’s gonna be a cheesy one:

“Live, love and surrender? No way!”

:aww: Not much of a “tiny story” writer, am I?

Nice idea though, very challenging. Amazing what people can say in 6 words.

I love the Margaret Atwood one (Starlet sex scandal. Giant squid involved.), it’s excellent.

    @ Stéphanie

*wow* indeed 6 words and it makes sense. Hey you could try your luck with very very short stories grinnod: and publish your own books

I think it’s more difficult for us to understand the whole story behind when this got to be 6 words :aww: not very descriptive for a story I think but yeah as the authors above, there’s a lot of meaning in what they and you said

Everybody likes celeb gossip I guess =D
