Great entertainment over the hedge

February 26th, 2007 by Hans

There are a couple of animated movies that I’m waiting for this year. Firstly the excellent following of the blockbuster Shrek that is Shrek 3 and then Ratatouille.

I love watching animated movies and I borrowed quite a few since I’m in holidays. I got myself Ant Bully, Monster House, Ice Age 2, Happy Feet and Over the hedge.

Monster House by Steven Spielberg is a good entertainment but I was really disappointed with Ice Age 2 and specially Happy Feet. They were really lamentable.

Over the hedge is my favourite watch. I will still watch it again after having done so several times. It’s hilarious, entertaining and amusing and has got some great moral and lesson behind.

One thing that differentiates for me a good animated movie with a lamentable one is its characters whatever the play, the age audience or the kind of animated movie.

Those from Happy Feet were a bunch of lame penguins learning to sing to conquer the hearts of their beloved ones. Not of my type! From Ice Age 2, it was the prehistoric mammals fleeing their homeland which could be flooded at anytime by the surrounding melting ice. Too pathetic! The boys in Ant Bully and Monster House made the movies a “reserved for kids” one.

On the contrary, I adored the guys in Over the Hedge. I even fell in love with its music played excellently by a Ben Folds. My favourite track being Family of Me and Still. Yeah coming to the characters again : look at the astute RJ the raccoon which has got to trick a bunch of collector animals to help him pile up food which he owe to the big bad Bear. And there you are also, the tortoise Verne too afraid to venture out of his shell and the rest of the animal company crew. Aren’t they cute?

I love them, I love that movie. Make it a must watch it, you won’t be disappointed. What are your favourite animated movies waiting to be watched this year? C’mon share your taste with me :P

I absolutely didn’t like Ice Age 2. I thought the first one was good though. Pity they couldn’t keep the follow-up up to the same standard. I also watched Over the Hedge but didn’t find it too appealing. Obviously, they was high hopes on this one because it was done by the creators of Shrek and Madagascar. I however really liked Monster House. I thought it was different and that’s the thing - many of those animated movies are getting too similar to each other in one way or the other.

I’m really waiting for Happy Feet and Ratatouille. But I hope you do watch Cars. It’s one of the best. One of the best because the ultimate best is Shrek2!

And do watch the movies in English, too.

We enjoyed all of the animated movies you mentioned, although “Monster House” & “Happy Feet” were kinda mediocre when compared to the others.

I recommend “Open Season!” I was prepared not to like it because I’m not too crazy about Ashton Kutcher, but it turned out to be great fun!

    Ka chow!

These Anime movies are surely exciting. I love them, because the producers spend hell lot of money over it
