Squarelinkers - my link love round

March 30th, 2007 by Hans

Here’s my link leak round. I haven’t been linking to good resources for I don’t know how many ages and thought starting it right now on in the Squarelinkers round. That’s just a list(single links fall in the Crispy bits category) of things to try out, posts, resources and goodies I’ve stumbled upon and thought sharing since they deserve people knowing about them.

Some great CSS tips

From coding the right CSS to resources that will allow you to get it the easy way with CSS, this how-to is one of the best I’ve read till now : concise, full of resourceful information and tricks.

Who’s on your blog?

Wouldn’t you sometimes be on your blog and wanted to know whether there was actually someone or people in there too? Just copy and paste a little code from whos.amung.us(that should have been whos.among.us see footer of the site :P) and have a real-time stats of online visitors on your site without a registration or sign-up of the sort. Here’s a live example of people currently on this page :

Controversy over the ads question

My response to Phil’s thoughts on his ads campaign :

…some people don’t like adverts on a blog, they are a necessary evil at times just to try and balance the cost of blogging out, but I don’t want to put people off instantly either. I will let you know if this makes a difference in the long run.

via unintentionallyblank

I was not in favour of ads because this greatly reduces the image of a blog to a money making factory and didn’t know why I would sport them in for a personal blog. Mine was a personal one at the beginning, I had in my mind about me and so the ads would be for me own advantage ONLY.

But I wouldn’t mind those resourceful blogs turning it on without feeling the guilt of whether their visitors would blame them. When you’ve got something that people would pay to have and instead offering them free why should we take the blame? In some other places people are paying to get these tricks and tips while in the blogosphere all is available free of charge. The ads really got a bad image due to some bloggers going with an intensive bloated campaign : everywhere ads so that you’re not left with any space to breathe but just click on any to leave that ads pot and remain in your feed readers if the blog’s really interesting.

If anybody opt to put on ads, I would recommend them for blogosphere’s sake to adopt some ads campaign and not just throw ads everywhere on the free space available. It would be great to have you on Phil’s post to voice out your opinions on his new ads campaign and positioning. Great work there Phil both on the tweaks and for taking the time to test the ads field!
