Is making money online the most sought after blogging lesson?

May 22nd, 2007 § 19

Blogging, primarily a medium of self expression has now become a real sought after money making machine. The proof? Take John Chow’s blog telling you how to make money online. The devil in person teaching you how to trick your visitors to harvest some pennies. And he surely wants to get himself called the devil lol, that’s no offense from me since he wants to get top ranked when you hit for “root of all evil” in Google.

In the Evil Nintendo Wii Blog Contest, I asked people to link to me using “root of all evil.” If you do a Google search for that phrase, you’ll see I am now ranked number three, just behind Wikipedia and RootOfAllEvil.com.

John Chow dot Com is not though a daily dose of resourceful material, sometimes you can read lots of shit about him enjoying I don’t know what vacation but then everybody waits for that next ground breaking tip that could help them to make money. Check these below which I find pretty thought provoking in the way the trap is setup for your clicks to generate revenue :

And lots more that you can find browsing through the archives. I like reading John’s post because in situations where everybody is criticising such or that service, he finds ways he can use to his own benefits even growing from the negative responses he gets. Surely John’s blog can teach you a lot then.

I do not see any problem with making money online. There are a lot of bloggers doing this.John Chow is one of them and he is doing it very well.Shoemoney is also worth reading.
The key to this is to have good writing skills, willingness to try new opportunities, good marketing skills and above all good seo.If you have the best content and not being picked up by Search engines it is useless…

thanks for the link for Shoemaker, Josh. That one I didn’t know about :)

yup search engine listing plays a great role in that but I was asking myself about the quality of the daily posts from John? Would people read irrelevant stuffs for days just to wait for some tip there?

sure, i cant be tempted by thing but surely not sponsored by nomad

I’ve always blogged for fun. Never really thought about making money. In fact the materials written by me are not really of a documentary aspect! so blogging for money does not really apply to me.

  • Hans says:

    @ Yashvin

lol the nomad referrer :) perhaps they should have affiliate links like ads services have :)

  • Hans says:

    @ morinn

even for personal motives, displaying things relevant to your audience might really be fun too…

for e.g take if you like reading lots of books, perhaps you can be an amazon affiliates displaying a picture of the book ready to be bought on amazon. you see the ads sometimes entertain people too….. displaying such relevant books could allow you to show a collection of books you read or like reading, etc something like that

thanks indeed for your comment. Do keep in touch.

    @ waz and kyu

I did come first with that name BlogoSquare and it is copyright lol. Infact that blog’s name is The BlogoSquare, surely having BlogoSquare in it but it’s not having the name BlogoSquare only, so I think he’s safe lol…..

There is such a thing as making money and making money tastefully. John Chow, in my opinion has crossed the line. Sure, great he makes money, however he also uses his loyal, (for reasons I have yet to figure out), readers. He can ask for money and the readers will practically throw it at him, with the excuse of, “well he has helped me make money.” Exactly how? From what I have read he blogs about the same topics you can find on 1000s of other blogs “teaching people” blog monetization. He gives the illusion of helping others, when in reality he is the only one gaining anything.

  • Hans says:

    @ Beth

I think the fault isn’t the readers but the search engines lol, it’s the crawlers that are sending people, desperate to make money to his blog and he really knows about the importance of the link stuffs. No wonder why he’s aiming for the top position for the phrase, make money online.

At the end, it isn’t good relationships with readers or other bloggers, which earn him new visitors but his listing in the SERP.

As for those that are throwing money on him, perhaps they are all waiting for a favour, like a link, something like that person paid me so and I’ll review his blog lol. Have you heard about the latest evil trick, removing no-follow on urls on paid commissions :(

I have taken the survey. To be the first thing I’ll concentrate is creating content that people want to read, then monetize the blog and finally promote the blog to make money with AdSense and affiliate.

  • Hans says:

Thanks for your comment Alan. That’s a good course of action  what’s your favourite affiliate deals?
