Site thumbnailing made easy

June 6th, 2008 by Hans

Whenever you get on those directory of blogs website, you are often asked a thumbnail of your blog. Some like Technorati can fetch this automatically for you while most don’t. SnapCasa, a simple site, provides you with real-time snapshot of your site in various image sizes, meaning that whenever you update your site, the thumbnail updates too. For this to work, you are to register for free with them and to add your blog’s domain to your account. Then you’ll be provided with the code in the image tag’s form i.e like that

<img src="http://SnapCasa.com/Get.aspx?code=[code]&size=[size]&url=[url]" />

to be placed on your site where a thumbnail will be needed. Needless to say, I don’t find much use to this on one’s blog.

But what kept my attention was the fact that without registering, you could instantly have thumbnails of any site for free. This could prove useful for reviews without the need to open any image editing software alongside.

While on SnapCasa, to the bottom left, under Try it Out, put the url of the site you want to get a thumbnail of and you’re handed thumbnails of 280×210, 200×150,140×105 and 100×75 in sizes. Here’s the largest size currently being offered by SnapCasa :

The image quality is desirable but having such a site opened in another tab when needing lots of site thumbnails for reviews,thumbnails for blog directories,etc, might prove handy. For a while, I’ve been using ScreenshotCaptor a great utility for screen capture tasks. Just see for yourself which of the two happens to be better in terms of snapshot.
