You can unlock your iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS for free by using the tools provided by the iPhone Dev-Team. First, you need to download the appropriate tools on your computer and use them to jailbreak the iPhone. After the jailbreak, you will have a new application on your iPhone called Cydia. Using Cydia on the iPhone, you’ll then have to download and install the free unlock for your iPhone.

1. The jailbreak can be done hassle-free by using free tools available for download.
2. The jailbreak gives you the possibiility to unlock your iPhone for free.
3. The jailbreak is reversible : you can revert the phone to its factory state by restoring it on iTunes. Restoring the iPhone on iTunes will erase all data on the phone as well as the jailbreak.
4. The jailbreak gives you access to alternative stores to the App Store. Cydia, one of the alternative stores available, allows you to download and install applications not found on the App Store.

1. You need a jailbroken iPhone to apply the free unlock provided by the iPhone Dev-Team.
2. The unlock provided by the iPhone Dev-Team is 100% free.
3. Firmware update on iTunes wipes out the applied free unlock on the iPhone 3G and 3GS.
4. The unlock for the iPhone 2G is not affected by firmware update. Nonetheless, after a firmware update, you will have to jailbreak the iPhone 2G once again in order to apply the unlock.
5. You need to make sure that the jailbreak and unlock is available for the iPhone 3G and 3GS before making new firmware updates on iTunes.
